V Foundation Nomination Process

The V Foundation for Cancer Research supports research on all types of cancer at all stages of life.

The V Foundation is different from other non-profit organizations in that we do not offer “open applications”, and our grant opportunities are by invitation only. The V Foundation requests and reviews innovative research proposals from a specific list of NCI-Designated cancer centers and a few top-ranked affiliated centers in the US and Canada that are doing exceptional cancer research work. The list of institutions that are invited to apply is reviewed on an annual basis. Nominations are submitted by invitation only.

Selecting a Nominee

Invited centers will hold internal competitions to determine and nominate the strongest applicant to apply. Each institution is typically eligible to submit only one proposal per grant opportunity for consideration. The V Foundation is not able to pre-certify a nominee’s eligibility and relies on the nominating official to select the candidate they believe best fits the eligibility criteria that is outlined in the Request for Applications (RFA).

You can learn more about this process on our Grant Selection Process page.

The V Foundation does not accept unsolicited proposals. If you believe that your institution falls within the list of NCI-Designated cancer centers, please contact your Cancer Center Director’s office for more information.

Ready to Nominate?

Nomination materials vary depending on the grant opportunity, but generally require:

  • Completion of the V Foundation’s nomination form including Principal Investigator (PI) and project information, grants officer information, and signatures from the PI and Cancer Center Director
  • Letter of Recommendation signed by the Cancer Center Director
  • For some early career grant mechanisms, eligibility is confirmed by submitting information about previously awarded grants. For example, the V Scholar mechanism requires nominators to submit the V Scholar Financial Worksheet. We also provide a V Scholar Eligibility Guide to aid institutions in selecting eligible nominees. For more information about the V Scholar mechanism, visit the FAQ page.
