Joe Loughrey retired from a 35-year career with Cummins, Inc. in 2009. During that time, Loughrey held the positions of Vice Chair of the Board and President and Chief Operating Officer.
During Loughrey’s career, Cummins, Inc. grew into a Fortune 200 company, serving customers in more than 160 countries with 5,000 distributor and dealer locations.
He serves on the Board of the Vanguard Group, Inc., and is Chair of the Saint Anselm College Board of Trustees. He has also served as Chair of the Boards of Hillenbrand Inc., the Lumina Foundation for Education, and Oxfam America, as well as Chair of the Advisory Council of the College of Arts & Letters and of the Advisory Board of the Kellogg Institute for International Studies both at the University of Notre Dame. He graduated from Notre Dame in 1971 in Economics with a concentration in African Studies.
His honors include the Achievement Award for Business from the Ireland Chamber of Commerce in the U.S., the William R. Laws Human Rights Award and the March of Dimes’ Dick Johnson Leadership Award. In 2007 he was named Indiana Global Business Person and made a Sagamore of the Wabash by Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels. He received the JFK National Award and was given the Ellis Island Medal of Honor. He received an honorary Doctor of Humanities from Saint Anselm College in 2015 and was the inaugural recipient of Indiana’s Andre B Lacy Vanguard Award.
