John Saunders was one of ESPN, Inc.’s and ABC Sports’ most visible and versatile commentators. He hosted and provided play-by-play for a variety of sports after joining ESPN, Inc. in 1986. He joined ABC in 1990. Saunders also hosted ESPN, Inc.’s The Sports Reporters, the network’s Sunday morning roundtable program in which reporters discuss the week’s topical issues.
From 2002 until 2004, Saunders was the voice of Sunday night NBA, and he was studio host of ESPN, Inc.’s NBA Shootaround from 2004 until 2006. Saunders had been co-host of NFL Primetime (1987-1989), host of ABC’s baseball coverage and ESPN, Inc.’s SportsCenter and voice of the Toronto Raptors (1995-2001).
Saunders was a member of the V Foundation Board of Directors since its inception in 1993.
He passed away at age 61 in August of 2016.
