Dr. Leo D. Wang is a pediatric cancer immunotherapist who leads a research laboratory that develops novel immune therapies for pediatric solid tumors. The lab is particularly interested in using adoptively transferred immune cells to engage and promote endogenous anti-tumor immune responses. Dr. Wang also leads clinical trials to treat children with primary brain tumors using chimeric antigen receptor T cells. Dr. Wang is Director of the City of Hope CIRM Alpha Clinic, one of nine sites throughout California forming a state-funded network to improve access to stem cell and regenerative medicine therapies. In this capacity, he works with colleagues at City of Hope and throughout California to build robust and sustainable clinical trial infrastructure capable of providing cutting-edge care to all Californians. He also directs the Clinical Gene Therapy Program at City of Hope. Dr. Wang earned his MD and Ph.D. at the University of Chicago. He completed internship and residency at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and did his fellowship in pediatric hematology/oncology/stem cell transplantation at the Dana-Farber/Boston Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center.
