The V Foundation for Cancer Research, a top-rated cancer research charity, is excited to announce the second annual Victory Ride to Cure Cancer will take place Saturday, May 18, 2019, beginning and ending at NC State University’s Centennial Campus. The Victory Ride benefits Duke Cancer Institute, UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Wake Forest Baptist Health Comprehensive Cancer Center, as well as breakthrough cancer research nationwide.
“Pairing athletics with great science, with a goal to end cancer – that’s in our DNA,” said Susan Braun, Chief Executive Officer of the V Foundation. “The V Foundation is excited to host the second year of the Victory Ride here in our home state of North Carolina, in partnership with the three outstanding NCI-designated cancer centers here.”
This year, the V Foundation has added a 10-mile route, as well as offering new routes for the 30-, 60- and 100-mile courses. There will also be a virtual ride option. All riders are asked to fundraise $250 to help achieve Victory Over Cancer®. One hundred percent of rider-raised funds will go directly to cancer research. Following the ride, cyclists and spectators will be greeted with food trucks and a beer garden.
“I chose the Victory Ride because I have been an NC State fan my entire life and I love being able to use my passions to give back,” said Russell Maddrey, a 2018 participant. “There are few people in the world whose lives haven’t been affected by cancer, and I wanted to be a part of the V Foundation’s fight against such a terrible, prolific disease to help them change the narrative.”
The V Foundation’s events raise millions of dollars every year and are vital to research funding. These include the Wine Celebration, the Dick Vitale Gala, Virginia Vine and the Victory Ride. At the inaugural Victory Ride, riders raised more than $200,000 for cancer research in North Carolina. The V Foundation has awarded more than $200 million for cutting-edge cancer research. The V Foundation holds a 4-star (highest) rating from Charity Navigator, America’s largest evaluator of charities, and is among the top 4% of cancer charities evaluated. The V Foundation is a GuideStar platinum-rated charity.
