The V Foundation for Cancer Research’s “Team V” Exceeds $540,000 Fundraising Milestone in 2024

Cary, NC (February 5, 2025) The V Foundation for Cancer Research celebrated a fundraising milestone in 2024, achieving over $540,000 raised in a single year from its “Team V” endurance sports program. These funds will benefit lifesaving cancer research at top institutions across North America. This brings Team V’s total to $4.8 million raised since its start in 2014 through endurance sports events such as Abbott World Marathon Majors, triathlons, and other races around the nation.

The V Foundation for Cancer Research was named an official charity partner for three World Marathon Majors in 2024: the BMW Berlin Marathon, the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, and the TCS New York City Marathon, with more than 120 runners participating on behalf of Team V in these races. All Team V runners commit to fundraising for the V Foundation, and many participants have personal connections to the cause.

“As a cancer thriver who was part of a successful clinical trial and an avid marathoner, running on behalf of the V Foundation was one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve ever had,” said Rosie Levy, a 2024 Team V runner. “It was an incredible opportunity to share my personal cancer journey, raise funds for an organization that is 100% committed to cancer research, and experience the magic of running through New York City. I ran with gratitude knowing I am living proof that cancer research works.”

The V Foundation offers multiple options for endurance racers who are passionate about making a proven, positive impact across the cancer research landscape:

  • Register for the Berlin, Chicago, or New York City marathon through the V Foundation as a charity runner. The V Foundation will provide the race entry, and runners commit to a minimum fundraising requirement (limited entries available).
  • For runners who have secured their own entries to these races, they can participate as a “Fundraise Only” team member, making their miles count toward a greater cause. No race entry comes with this category.
  • Participants interested in fundraising through other races or endurance events can select the “Choose Your Own Race” option to create a customized fundraising page for their race. Racers are responsible for securing their own entry with this option.

In addition to the World Majors runners, the Choose Your Own Race participants had a strong showing in 2024, representing Team V around the country, including races in Alaska, Philadelphia, Hawaii and more.

“The V Foundation’s Team V program offers a unique opportunity for people to participate in some of the most renowned races around the world, all while raising funds for cutting-edge cancer research that will have a profound impact for patients and families,” said Roger Ferguson, Chief Marketing Officer at the V Foundation for Cancer Research. “We are so proud of all our Team V participants who not only put in the miles but also rallied their communities for this important cause.  Because of their fundraising efforts, we will continue to make an impact by accelerating breakthrough research and discovering lifesaving treatments across all cancer types.”

The V Foundation’s Team V plans to return to Berlin, Chicago and New York in 2025. More information can be found about each race at v.org/teamv. Interested runners are encouraged to email [email protected] to learn more about available entries through the V Foundation. Note that entries are offered on a first-come, first-serve basis and fill quickly.
